Most Common Grading Scales

Different countries and educational systems use different grading scales. The most common ones are:

  • 0-10: Used in Spain, Mexico, Costa Rica, Ecuador
  • 0-20 (vigesimal): Used in Peru, Venezuela, Dominican Republic
  • 0-100: Used in Bolivia, Dominican Republic
  • 1.0-7.0: Used in Chile
  • 0-5: Used in Colombia
  • GPA 0.0-4.0: Used in the United States and many international universities
  • 1-10: Used in Argentina

Conversion Formulas

To convert between linear scales, use the rule of three:

From 0-10 to GPA 4.0: GPA = (Grade × 4) ÷ 10

From 0-20 to 0-10: Grade = Score ÷ 2

From 0-100 to 0-10: Grade = Score ÷ 10

From 1.0-7.0 to 0-10: Grade = (Score - 1) × 10 ÷ 6
